“Wait for me, I’m coming!” If you know the song, you already know just how hard it is to get Hadestown out of your head. And if you haven’t experienced it yet, now’s your chance: the Tony Award-winning musical is returning to Seattle, with tickets now on sale for its January 19–24, 2027 engagement at The Paramount Theatre.

Make a night of it in Seattle! For Kitsap families, Hadestown is an easy excuse for a special evening out with just a ferry ride across the Sound followed by dinner and a show. It’s a great choice for a date night, girls’ night out, or an evening with older teens who are ready for a big Broadway experience. Whether you’re longtime musical theater fans or looking for something memorable to do together, Hadestown brings plenty of atmosphere, music and storytelling to the night.

A little personal note from me: I saw Hadestown: The Musical in a movie theater this summer during its very brief theatrical run, and it definitely made me want to see the show live. I loved the music and the story, but I have a feeling the atmosphere and energy of Hadestown are going to be something special in a theater. So I’m really looking forward to seeing it at The Paramount!

Winner of eight 2019 Tony Awards®, including Best Musical, and the 2020 Grammy® Award for Best Musical Theater Album, Hadestown puts a fresh spin on two ancient Greek myths and brings them to life through a distinctive mix of folk, jazz and theatrical storytelling.

What Is Hadestown About?

Created by celebrated singer-songwriter and Tony Award® winner Anaïs Mitchell, with original direction by Tony Award® winner Rachel Chavkin, Hadestown follows two intertwining love stories: young dreamers Orpheus and Eurydice, and the powerful King Hades and his wife, Persephone.

The story takes audiences on a journey to the underworld and back, exploring the tension between industry and nature, doubt and faith, and fear and love. Mitchell's music blends modern American folk with New Orleans-inspired jazz, creating a theatrical world that feels both timeless and entirely its own.

At its heart, Hadestown is a story about love, hope and the choice to keep believing even when the odds aren't in your favor.

From Indie Album to Broadway

Hadestown began as an indie theater project created by Anaïs Mitchell and toured in Vermont before becoming an acclaimed album. The project eventually evolved into the stage musical audiences know today, with Rachel Chavkin joining Mitchell as artistic collaborator and director.

The production premiered at New York Theatre Workshop in 2016, where it became the theater's longest-running show in its 40-year history. After further development and engagements in Canada and London, Hadestown arrived on Broadway in 2019.

The Broadway production opened at the Walter Kerr Theatre on April 17, 2019, and became a major hit before performances were suspended during the COVID-19 pandemic. Hadestown resumed performances in September 2021 and continues to play on Broadway.
